Well everyone, the book is complete! I am so thrilled to have finished this book, and now I’ve got get it all ready for the printers. I cannot wait to go to WonderCon, and share with you the experience there. And of course, here is some art, this is a finished page that I previously showed the linework for, enjoy!

A MILESTONE…

Well, folks, we’ve hit a milestone here! All the illustrations for Expiration Date are Done!! It’s hard to believe but all the drawing is now finished, now onto finishing the lettering, and doing all the coloring. The coloring will be a big process, but will go A LOT quicker than the drawing side of things.

My wife has already flatted a bunch of pages for me, so that will continue to help me to color quicker! I’m so excited for this book to be complete so that I can share it with you all. If I had to give you an ETA, I’d have to say the book will complete in the next 2-3 weeks, WOOT! And as always here is some new art, the autopsy of Senator Harper…

Slight Change of Plans

Nothing alarming, but I wanted to make a slight change. So, as my time draws near to a close on drawing full-time, I had to do some thinking. The original place that I intended to end “Volume 1″ would have made it about 60-ish pages long. However, to make it that far was going to require more time than I think I have unless quality was sacrificed ( And I don’t want to do that for the sake of page count).

So, here is the new plan, the book will now be about 40 pages (which is still pretty dang sweet). The first book will have a different cliffhanger than I originally planned, but nonetheless, it’s a good one! This will ensure that quality is NOT sacrificed.

The other change is that now that it is a bit shorter, I don’t think that I want to call it “Volume 1″ anymore, it seems a bit short for a “volume.” So, I think that I am changing it to “Issue 1.” If anyone has any qualms with that or has another suggestion, please do not be afraid to post a comment or email me directly Lee@wileyillustration.com

Page Preview!

Well everyone, things are coming along ‘smashingly!’ I couldn’t be happier with the progress made so far! I’ve figured out to get my pace dialed in to where I am able to draw 2 pages a day. I’ve never drawn that fast before in life and have come out the way that I want it.

My goal has been to draw and letter 10 pages every week, the coloring will come last. I probably will do most of the coloring once I’m back at my regular job, so I will be spending my nights coloring once that time comes. My amazing wife, Amelia, has been helping me out by ‘flatting’ the pages. Flatting is the process of creating the basic shapes and details for selection, that I can use to do the final color. Having her help shaves 1-2 hours per page off of my coloring process!

So, anyway, just wanted to give you an update, and now here is the preview of an intense page where a character is shot, do enjoy.

Drawing FULL TIME!

Well, after a short hiatus from posting and taking time for the Holidays, I’ve returned! I spent the last few weeks preparing to draw Expiration Date full time. For my new years resolution, I resolved to draw Expiration Date full time for 5 weeks. Because of the great Backers at Kickstarter, that resolution came true! I am now on hiatus from my normal full time job, to focus solely on Expiration Date.

This is now my 3rd day working on the book full time and it is so exciting. I am currently working at a good pace, a page a day, but I am working on how to speed up that pace and to do a page and a half to 2 pages a day. I am confident that this is possible, as I get more in the groove of doing this full time, I know I can become more and more efficient! For now, here is a snippet of some of the page Roughs that I’ve working on. Till next time, Happy new year!

The Time has Arrived! The Final Full Color Trailer for Expiration Date is here. Chey did an amazing job animating everything and did some amazing effects. Chey and I estimate that we put around 100 hours of work between us for about 2 minutes of footage, and man was it worth it! Without further adeau, enjoy the Trailer!

Tonight I finished the coloring of page 1 and wanted to share it! I added some lettering to this page as well. I’m not completely dead set on the lettering yet, this is the first time I’ve done any of the internal pages with lettering and I need some time explore it some more. So, yeah, the lettering may change as the project progresses. Also, I won’t be posting every completed page because I’ve gotta save some goodies for you when the whole Volume is done. So for now, enjoy this fully colored page, it’s so awesome!

We made it to our goal, and a little bit more! I can hardly wait to start full time production on this first Volume! So many people made this dream a reality, and on this Thanksgiving weekend, my heart is indeed full of thanks. Thank you to so many of you who supported and believed in making this happen.

The Motion Graphic Trailer has been…RELEASED

Well, it was a whirlwind to get here, but the first draft of the Motion graphic Trailer is here! This is a black and white version (mostly), and we will release a full color version in the coming weeks. We wanted to start showing this off however in our final push for the Kickstarter campaign. I love this trailer, our motion graphics animator, Chey, did an amazing job compositing this all together.

I hope that you enjoy it and share it! That is the way that the message of this project gets around. Thank you so much to everyone who has followed the project thus far. Keep sharing it and we’ll make our Kickstarter goal!

Black Hole Grenade Page

We are so close to the release of the Black and White version of the Motion Graphic Trailer for Expiration Date. In the wee hours of the morning, I finished up this last page for it. This scene will actually take place towards the end of the book. Cutter is armed with Black Hole Grenades, an outlawed weapon. He is using them to infiltrate the SY-9 corporation, and the Guards that are attacking Cutter find themselves getting taken away by a black hole grenade. Such a fun page to draw!

We are in the final week of the Kickstarter Campaign, and I am so thankful for all those who have supported us already! We are going to push to the end and see this puppy through. Keep spreading the word and showing the great things happening here. I cannot wait to share the Trailer with you!
